Trees to Fortify our Inlet Channel Land
We have ordered 192 seedling evergreens, shrubs, and hardwwod trees for our 8.3 acres conservation area throught the Kosciusco County Soil & Water District! They will be delivered on April 11th, and planted by mid-month. Plantings will benefit wildlife with protection, nesting sites, nuts and berries for food, as well as stabilize errosion and reduce nutrients entering the lake. Chairperson for this project is  association member Rick Elliott. Thanks Rick for your efforts!

LARE Grant in 2008!
Silver Lake Conservation continues their dedication to providing clean waters in 2008, by receiving an $80,000.00 LARE Grant for improvement in the surrounding Watershed area of 3,200 acres. Silver Lake is the only location in Kosciusko County to receive this funding for this year!
Also the D.N.R., Fish and Wildlife Division has granted through the LARE Program $15,705.00 for planning and treatment of Exotic Non-Native Weed Species. Silver Lake is very fortunate to receive this support. Funds are very limited, and 30 Indiana lakes received no funding at all!
Treatment for Non-Native Species will be conducted at the end of March or the first part of April, after water temperatures reach the right level. This application helps insure that boaters do not transfere envasive weeds from Silver Lake, to other area waters.

In the last 6 years, fishing on Silver Lake has improved dramatically by participating in the LARE program.
Silver Lake offers anglers the oppertunity to enjoy catching Bluegill, Crappie, Large Mouth Bass and Perch. Many anglers report Bass in the 5 to 8lb. range, and Perch up to 13" in length!

Land Acquisition Complete!
Silver Lake Conservation Association, Inc. has aquired 8.3 acres surrounding the main channel inlet through a land gift donation! The area is boardered by highway 14 West, Neer Drive and the Silver Lake Cemetery, where the Centenial Cell Tower is located. Through the generousity of Kevin Deardorff, this acrage will be utilized for wildlife habitat enhancement, sediment and nutrient overloading control of Silver Lake. Also received through the SWCD of Kosciusko County was an additional $40,000.00 for improvements to Silver Lake's watershed area.

Public Access Points?
Negotiations are underway between the DNR and a local landowner to aquire a much needed and sought after public access area, ramp, and parking area. We sincerely hope this can be completed successfully in the very near future. Until then, the Shutt Avenue and Bowman's Landing areas are available launch sites.
